Fannie Mae Suspends California Housing Loan Insurance Fund

Earlier this year, the California Housing Loan Insurance Fund (CaHLIF) ceased writing new mortgage insurance policies. The insurance fund is administered by the California Housing Finance Agency.

Effective immediately, Fannie Mae says it is suspending CaHLIF as an approved mortgage insurer.

The GSE says given the date on which CaHLIF ceased writing new policies, this suspension should have no impact on current loan production. Servicers should continue to renew coverage with CaHLIF when existing policies expire unless notified otherwise by Fannie Mae.

The GSE’s list of acceptable conventional mortgage insurers has been updated to reflect the suspension of CaHLIF, and can be found on Fannie’s servicer Web site.
