NeighborWorks America announced Tuesday that Sarah McGraw Greenberg has been appointed director of its development division.

Greenberg is NeighborWorks’ front-line official for fundraising to support the nonprofit organization’s work to prevent foreclosure and foster long-term homeownership. As director, Greenberg provides strategic leadership to the corporation’s partnership and resource development efforts.

Prior to being named director of the development division, Greenberg was senior manager for community stabilization. Greenberg led NeighborWorks America’s strategy to mitigate the impact of foreclosed properties. She created and managed the agency’s Stable Communities Initiative. She also oversaw NeighborWorks’

role in the creation of the National Community Stabilization Trust, a partnership with five other national housing intermediaries.

“Sarah brings a wealth of expertise in community development to her new role,” said Eileen Fitzgerald, NeighborWorks America CEO. “She has a proven track record of success in developing partnerships and attracting resources to build nonprofit capacity in the field. Her experience working with a variety of public and private partners to support local responses to the foreclosure crisis will be an immediate asset to NeighborWorks America as all of us work to strengthen communities.”

Greenberg joined NeighborWorks America in 2007 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) where she helped create the nation’s first certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) focused on the revitalization of historic properties and neighborhoods. Prior to the NTHP, she worked in the private sector, including positions in retail banking and residential mortgage lending.

Greenberg holds a B.B.A. in organizational management from Tiffin University and a master’s degree in community planning from the University of Maryland, College Park with specializations in environmental planning and historic preservation. Greenberg also completed the Rutgers University fellowship program for mid-career leaders in community development.
