On Thursday, Starwood Capital Group, LLC (SCG), a private investment firm with a core focus on global real estate, appointed Steven Hankin as managing director, portfolio operations, giving him oversight over the company’s portfolio of corporate investments.

Hankin will focus on acquisition transitions, helping SCG’s management teams set strategic direction and aiding in the execution of those plans. He will be based in the company’s corporate headquarters in Greenwich, Connecticut and will be part of the senior management
team that reports directly to Barry Sternlicht, chairman and CEO of SCG.

For the past six years, Hankin has been CEO of Sentient Jet, a privately-held company. Before joining Sentient, he held various positions at Starwood Hotels and Resorts. He first worked as the head of strategic planning and was then promoted to president of Starwood Technology & Revenue Systems. After several years, Hankin was promoted again and became chief marketing officer of the company. Prior to his time at Starwood, he was a partner at McKinsey & Company, Inc., an international management consulting firm.
