Reisenfeld & Associates Hires Two New Attorneys

The law firm of Reisenfeld & Associates LPA, LLC announced this week that it has expanded its foreclosure and bankruptcy departments with the recent hiring of attorneys Phyllis A. Carmer and Martha R. Spaner.
Carmer will serve as associate counsel in the firm’s Indiana foreclosure department. Carmer earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1989. She later earned her Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University Law School in 1994 and was admitted to the United States District Court of Indiana in 1997.
Prior to her appointment at Reisenfeld & Associates, Carmer served as in-house counsel and examiner for an Indiana title insurance company, concentrating in foreclosure and REO properties. Before that, she was an associate attorney at a large creditors’ rights firm in Indianapolis and then a small, general civil practice law office. Carmer also managed the document preparation department of a business banking loan center for a three-state region (Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin) before beginning her legal career.

Spaner has been named associate counsel for Reisenfeld & Associates’ bankruptcy department. Spaner graduated from Ohio University in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications. She furthered her education at the University of Findlay where she earned her master’s in environmental management in 1995. She received her Juris Doctor degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2001.
Before joining Reisenfeld & Associates in April 2009, Spaner served as associate attorney for Felty and Lembright, specializing in bankruptcy cases. Prior to that, Spaner was an in-house counsel at FN Realty, an 84-unit, $3 million apartment complex in Willowick, Ohio. There, she acted as in-house counsel for all general legal matters, including evictions and the implementation of new lease provisions.
Prior to that, Spaner held various associate counsel positions with Ohio law firms. While attending law school, Spaner served as a law clerk for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District where she researched and prepared memoranda on various legal topics such as tax exemption, bankruptcy, Internet and intranet policies, liquidated damages, storm water issues, and community discharge. She also reviewed female and minority business enterprise applications and submitted memoranda based on qualifications.
Commenting on the new attorney appointments, Brad Reisenfeld, managing partner, said, “We are very pleased to have Ms. Carmer and Ms. Spaner join our team. These women bring with them an excellent amount of experience and expertise, which will help Reisenfeld & Associates better serve our clients and help continue our success.”
Reisenfeld & Associates was founded in 1960. The firm is composed of 14 attorneys who provide a array of legal services to the mortgage, banking, and default servicing industries throughout Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. The firm is headquartered in Cincinnati, with a regional office in Indianapolis.
