SunTrust Announces New SVP and Chief Credit Officer

SunTrust Mortgage, Inc., recently named Denis McLaughlin senior vice president and chief credit officer.
In his new position, McLaughlin will oversee all areas of the company’s credit risk function, which includes credit policy and exception approval administration, forecasting and decision modeling, analytics and reporting, quality control, fraud mitigation, and third-party risk management.

“Denis’s extensive background in the credit risk area combined with his excellent management skills make him a valuable addition to our management team,” said Sterling Edmunds, president and chief executive officer of SunTrust Mortgage.
McLaughlin brings to the position more than 22 years of credit risk and default management experience. Prior to SunTrust Mortgage, he worked as senior vice president for Wells Fargo and as a vice president for J.P. Morgan Chase and for Chase Financial.
McLaughlin earned a bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Case Western Reserve University.
Richmond, Virginia-based SunTrust Mortgage originates loans through 182 locations, maintains correspondent and broker relationships in 49 states, and services mortgage loans in 50 states and the District of Columbia.
