To help default servicing attorneys more easily connect with mortgage servicing clients in the field, USFN its annual Legal Issues Seminar last
month in Denver, Colorado.
USFN—a nonprofit association of default servicing attorneys, trustee companies, and industry professionals—organizes the event annually so attendees can discuss current legal issues facing the real estate finance and mortgage servicing industries.
“When we initiated this annual seminar in 2003, we did so because we recognized an opportunity to further develop our attorney-client relationship with mortgage servicing companies,” said Stephen Collins with Sirote & Permutt, who serves as Seminar Chairman. “While those of us representing servicing companies communicate on a regular basis with a variety of people in the client’s office, we realized that sometimes there was not enough attorney-to-attorney communication and that in certain situations complex legal issues were not being fully addressed in a legal context.”
U.S. Congressman and member of the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) served as keynote speaker at this year’s event, which also included a Bankruptcy Roundtable featuring two sitting bankruptcy judges and a Chapter 13 bankruptcy trustee.
“There is not another conference in the country that zeroes in on the specific legal issues facing mortgage default servicing like the USFN Legal Issues Seminar,” added Collins. “The fact that we had 27 servicing companies represented at our conference at a time when they are all facing significant budget tightening is a testament to the quality of our program.”
USFN will continue with its educational endeavors by hosting the Fall Regional Default Servicing Seminar in Huntington Beach, California. The event runs from Sept. 19-21, 2007.
