Berkadia Commercial Mortgage Adds to Its Team

Berkadia Commercial Mortgage has added three key executives to its ranks within the last few weeks. Industry veteran Luther Peacock has joined the company as chief risk officer. Stephannie Mower has been named managing director and will lead the company's newly launched Investment Client Services business. And Mortgage banker Mike Duggan has joined Berkadia's St. Louis office, which is the center of operations for its HUD and Federal Housing Administration (FHA) platform.

Industry Reports Point to Renewal in Commercial Real Estate Financing

Mortgage bankers originated $110 billion of commercial and multifamily mortgages during 2010 - an increase of 36 percent from 2009, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. A separate report from Jones Lang LaSalle corroborates the trade group's assessment of a resurgence in the financing market and indicates even stronger growth in 2011, even without the predicted surge is distressed sales. Wells Fargo is ranked as the largest servicer of commercial and multifamily mortgages.

Berkadia Adds CMBS Loans to Commercial Real Estate Financing

Berkadia Commercial Mortgage is expanding its commercial real estate financing options offered through its nationwide mortgage banking network. The addition of fixed-rate loans for inclusion in the new generation of commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) is expected to be available in early 2011. Also under development is a short-term floating-rate loan program, which will provide temporary financing to select multifamily borrowers with pending Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac executions.

Securities Unit of Bankrupt Capmark Lands with MountainView

MountainView Capital Holdings recently announced that it has acquired the fixed income broker-dealer arm of the bankrupt commercial real estate lender Capmark Financial Group. Capmark sold off its North American loan origination and servicing businesses to Berkadia Commercial Mortgage at the end of last year, and its real estate equity advisory subsidiary, Capmark Investments, to Trecap Partners in March 2010.

Wells Fargo Ranked as Leading Commercial and Multifamily Servicer

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) has released its mid-year ranking of commercial and multifamily mortgage servicers. Wells Fargo tops the list, with 40,292 loans worth $462.8 billion in its commercial/multifamily servicing portfolio. Also among the top five are PNC's Midland Loan Services, Berkadia, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and KeyBank Real Estate Capital.

Berkadia Hires BlackRock Founding Partner as New CEO

Berkadia Commercial Mortgage LLC announced the appointment of Hugh R. Frater as CEO this week. He replaces Michael I. Lipson, who left the organization. Frater was a founding partner and managing director of BlackRock, Inc., the largest publicly traded investment manager. He also served as EVP for the real estate division of PNC Financial Services.
