Consumer Expectations Toward Housing and Economy Growing More Positive

The survey found that home price change expectations rose to 3.5 percent, their highest level this year, and median earnings growth as well as household spending growth expectations increased from the prior month. Median consumer inflation expectations at both the short and medium term horizon continue to be stable, while labor market expectations also continued to improve and credit availability expectations were largely unchanged.

While job growth continues to push meaningful income growth, the outlook for housing market growth is also improving, the GSE says. Of those surveyed, the share of respondents who say home prices will go up in the next 12 months increased to 49 percent, while the share who say home prices will go down dropped to 6 percent.

Fed Survey Finds Increased Optimism for Future Financial Prospects

The survey found that 65 percent of adult respondents said they were either "doing okay" or "living comfortably" as far as their personal finance situation, which represented an increase of 3 percentage points from the survey the previous year. Meanwhile, the percentage of respondents who said they expect their income to be higher in the next year jumped from 21 percent in 2013 to 29 percent in the 2014 survey.

Fannie Mae Reports All-Time High for Consumer Optimism Toward Economy

Consumers were more optimistic toward the economy than they've been at any point in the last five years, according to Fannie Mae's February 2015 National Housing Survey released Monday. The percentage of respondents who said they believe the economy is on the right track increased by 3 percentage points since January's survey up to 47 percent, an all-time high since the survey began nearly five years ago.

Consumers Offer Mixed Opinions on Housing Market’s Future

Fannie Mae released Monday its most recent National Housing Survey, revealing a slight softening in the housing recovery as monthly indicators remain volatile. According to results from the March survey, fewer than half of consumers polled expect home prices to continue rising over the next 12 months, continuing a trend of uncertainty that started as price gains began to slow noticeably last fall.

Home Value Slowdown Stalls Consumer Sentiment

Consumer sentiment retreated last month to an index reading of 80.0, down 2 percent from February’s 81.6 but an improvement on last year’s 78.6, according to a report released by Thomson Reuters and the University of Michigan’s Survey Research Center.
