According to the FHFA’s Q3 2022 Foreclosure Prevention and Refinance Report, the Enterprises completed 69,362 foreclosure prevention actions within the quarter, helping troubled homeowners nationwide to stay in their homes.

Both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac say they have made foreclosure prevention, specifically keeping families in their homes, a priority since the foreclosure crisis peaked six to seven years ago.

There has been a growing trend in the number and type of foreclosure prevention actions completed by the GSEs since the start of the conservatorships.

Helping families avoid foreclosure is one of the stated goals of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac since the conservatorships began more than seven years ago.

In August 2015, the GSEs completed 17,806 foreclosure prevention actions, over half of which (11,382) were permanent loan modifications. August’s total included both home retention actions and home forfeiture actions and brought the total of foreclosure prevention actions completed by the GSEs to 3,578,227 since the conservatorships began in September 2008.

More than half of the nearly 3.5 million foreclosure prevention actions completed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac since the start of the conservatorships in September 2008 were permanent loan modifications, according to FHFA.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac combined to complete 65,960 foreclosure prevention actions in Q1 this year, bringing the total of such actions up to almost 3. 5 million between the two GSEs since September 2008 when the conservatorships began, according to the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)'s Q1 2015 Foreclosure Prevention Report released on Tuesday.

According to FHFA, nearly 41,000 out of those 65,900 foreclosure prevention actions (62 percent) completed in Q4 were permanent loan modifications; 33 percent of borrowers who received loan mods had their payments reduced by 30 percent or more, according to FHFA.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have completed approximately 3.3 million foreclosure prevention actions in the last six years, according to the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)'s Q3 Foreclosure Prevention Report released Monday. Including the 72,700 foreclosure prevention actions completed by the GSEs in the third quarter, the two Enterprises have performed about 3.3 million such actions since the start of the conservatorship under FHFA in September 2008, according to the report. Nearly 2.8 million of those borrowers were able to stay in their homes as a result of receiving assistance from Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.
