NFHA Files Another Complaint Alleging Housing Discrimination

In a long line of lawsuits and complaints against corporations alleging discrimination, the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) announced a complaint against Safeguard Properties, the largest mortgage field services company in the country. The organization alleges REO properties were not as well maintained and marketed in African-American, Latino, and other non-white communities compared to properties in white neighborhoods.

U.S. Bank Accused of Housing Discrimination

The National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) and four of its member organizations announced new evidence of housing discrimination by U.S. Bank, N.A. The civil rights groups allege that U.S. Bank maintains and markets foreclosed homes in white neighborhoods, in "a much better manner than in African-American and Latino neighborhoods," according to a press release issued by the NFHA.

Fair Housing Group Broadens Discrimination Complaint Against BofA

The National Fair Housing Alliance announced the fourth amendment of its discrimination complaint against Bank of America Thursday with the addition of five new cities. The amended complaint now includes 20 metro areas in which NFHA alleges Bank of America has neglected to maintain and market foreclosed and REO properties in minority neighborhoods. NFHA says it will release even more evidence early next year, but according to BofA, the group's accusations are ""simply untrue.""

NAHREP Honors Armando Falcon, Shanna Smith With Founders’ Award

The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) presented the 2011 NAHREP Founders' Awards to Armando Falcon and Shanna Smith for their efforts in advancing homeownership, particularly in the Hispanic community. Falcon served as director of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO), Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's former regulator, from 1999 to 2005. Fair Housing Investigation Uncovers Corrupt Loan Mod Practices

Four fair housing organizations have released their findings of a year-long undercover investigation of 80 loan modification companies, which reveal a host of corrupt practices scammers employ to target homeowners in distress. According to the report, 55 percent of loan modification companies required an upfront fee to start work or a low initial fee to conduct minimal work, such as reviewing loan documents. Twenty-four percent advised or encouraged homeowners to stop making mortgage payments or stop contacting their lenders.
